Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her parents are Parkash and Ujjala, her father was an International badminton player where as her mother is a travel agent. She has a younger sister who is a golf player, named Anisha. Her family shifted to Bangalore when Deepika was just a year old. Hence her education started in here, she studied in Sophia High School further more did her graduation from Mount Carmel College, which is a women college in Bangalore, Karnatka.
After this she started her career as a model but also wanted to do some study with that hence she joined Indira Gandhi National Open University and took admission in Bachelor of Arts in sociology but she had to quit this very soon as her career became more important at that time. But choosing modeling or acting as a career was not that easy for her, as her father was an international badminton player, she used to play badminton a lot during her school days, she was very crazy about that game in the result of which also played national level championships in the sport. She used to wake up early for the practice, go to school, back again to game, homework and sleep. This was her schedule during her 8th standard. She decided to become a badminton player as her father.
Deepika Padukone also played baseball in some state-level championships. But later in her metric, she realized that the career she is going with is because of her home situations along with which her father was a badminton player, hence she realized that her goal is to be something else. As a child she has also worked as a child artist in some ad works in just the age of eight. When discussed this with her father, she never felt bad for this moreover made her free to do anything of her choice. In year 2004 Deepika Padukone started her career as a full time model under Parsad Bidapa.

In the starting of her modelling Deepika Padukone modelled for many brands and products. Although in 2005, Deepika made her debut at Lakme Fashion Week for Suneet Varma, who is an Indian Fashion Designer. She won title of “Model of the Year” at Kingfisher Fashion Awards. In 2006, at Kingfisher Fashion Awards, she received a compliment from a designer, Wendell Rodricks that they haven’t seen such beautiful and fresh girl after Ashwarya Rai.
At age of 21 Deepika relocated to Mumbai and did debut in Himesh Reshammiya’s video song “Naam Hai Tera”, which filled her career with geniality and wings that were about to fly high. Soon she started receiving offers from movies as well. But before she starts her career as an actress she felt that she lacks experience, that’s why joined an acting course at Anupam Kher’s Film academy. And finally, she announced her starting with a Kannada movie named Aishwarya directed by Indrajit Lankesh, which was a romantic comedy film and remake of a Telugu Movie, Manmadhudu. The film was really successful in cinemas.
In 2007, Deepika Padukone made debut in the Bollywood industry, with the King Khan in Om Shanti Om, which was one of the biggest blockbusters ever in Hindi Cinema. Hence her career got a great start from this which made her more loyal towards her acting. Further her success took her to her next movie with Yash Raj Films opposite Ranbir Kapoor in “Bachna Ae Haseeno” in 2008, the film did good business but Deepika Padukone failed to impress critics much because she needed to work more on some specific parts of acting career.
In 2009, Deepika Padukone was seen in a kung fu comedy tale “Chandni Chonk to China” opposite, Bollywood Khiladi, Ashay Kumar, which was directed by Nikhil Advani. Her role for the film was even interesting as it was comedy along with a dual tadka of two Chinese sisters Sakhi and Suzy. But the movie was a major failure on the screens and failed to impress audience, not only this, this affected Deepika’s career as well, most of the critics were disappointed from her work, they felt that the role she did was not suitable for her personality. Her image during her debut Om Shanti Om was so impressive that the expectation from that new star increased automatically, but the luck was not working in the ways she wanted.
Soon, in the same year Deepika Padukone did a item number song in movie Billu “Love Mera Hit Hit”. Along with this she was seen opposite Saif Ali Khan in romantic drama tale Love Aaj Kal, which was written and directed by Imtiaz Ali. The movie came out to be Deepika Padukone came back in the films by her acting and hard work. The movie was announced as the third highest grossing film of 2009, and this was far better from her last performances. A newspaper mentioned her as “strong and definitive”. Also at 55th Filmfare wards she was nominated for the best actress.
2010 onwards, Deepika padukone did many films and the first one was Karthik calling Karthik which was a psychological thriller opposite Farhan Akhtar but movie failed to perform well at box office. Most popular movie of her career in that year was Shajid Khan’s comedy film Housefull. Then she did Lafangey parindey opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh, along with Danish Aslam’s directed movie Break Ke Baad opposite Imran Khan but both the films were flops, still critics this time appreciated Deepika Padukone’s work. The last one on 2010 was with Abhishek Batchan “Kelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey” which was major disappointment in theatres.
Deepika started her next year with an item song “Dum Maro Dum” which was a remake of 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna’s song. Later on she was seen with Big B in film Aarakshan, the movie was on high expectations from both critics and audience but unfortunately failed at box office. Last one she did in 2011 was Desi Boyz with John Abrahim and Akshay Kumar but her previous movies made her career a big question for many as her spark was decreasing along the years.

In year 2012, Cocktail movie came out to be a major turning point in her career and she was also credited as the “soul of the movie” by Devesh Sharma of Filmfare awards. Later in 2013 Deepika Padukone featured herself as part of top four highest grossing productions of the year and also did a movie with many named stars like Saif Ali Khan, Jaqueline Fernandez and Anil Kapoor in Race 2, sequel to movie Race, which was an action pack thriller. Commercially the movie did good business.
During the same year Deepika Padukone was to be seen in Ye Jawani Hai Deewani opposite Ranbir Kapoor, who was also addresses as Deepika Padukon’s Boyfriend. The movie came out to be a success and a newspaper stated that “the movie lacks story but thankfully had Deepika in it”. This was what her image had become during the time. Later she was seen in Rohit Shetty’s Movie “Chennai Express” opposite Shah Rukh Khan again after Om Shanti Om, the film came out to be a major success as it was perfect choice of people Rohit Shetty did. She next did another movie in 2013 of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, opposite Ranveer Singh, Golliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Her role was really challenging for her as she had to play a Gujrati Girl character which was different. She was really praised for her acting in the film and the movie was also super hit on screens. For which she received Screen Award for best actress and a Filmfare as well under the same category. Also there was a song from Deepika Padukone songs in Ram-Leela, Dhole Bhaaje, in which she gave a fabulous dance performance and during the period of shoot she shared a story in an interview and said “The dress that was designed for the song was so heavy that every time I take a turn it would rotate so heavily that i had to take another turn just to balance myself. But somehow it took many days to shoot the song just because of this problem, and finally I managed to dance on beats.” This shows her hard work during the times which has added to her personality.
In year 2014, Deepika Padukone did a Tamil film Koachadaiiyaan. And in 2015 did Piku, a Bollywood comic drama of a daughter with her father whose role was played by Big B, Amitabh Bachchan along with supportive role of Irfan Khan, the movie was very positively taken by the audience and Deepika got another screen and Filmfare award for best actress. Then she did Imtiaz Ali’s film Tamasha which got poor responses all over.
In 2015, Deepika Padukone was seen in another movie of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, again with Ranveer Singh that was Bajirao Mastani, a historical tale of King of Maratha Saltanat, Peshva Bajirao and Mastani, abouth their extramarital affair. The movie was a blockbuster moreover was showcased in International Film Festival of India.
Latest in 2017 she did a Hollywood movie as well which was an action movie named as xXx: Retunt of Xander Cage in which Deepika Padukone did role of Serena Unger, a leading female role of the movie. This was her 1st Hollywood project for which she was nominated in Teen choice Awards including Choice Breakout movie as well.

Similarly another one is on the way, another historical drama from Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati, based on the life of Rani Padmini, starring Deepika Padukone as a lead actress, Ranveer Singh as Allaudeen Khilji along with Shahid Kapoor. Tailer of the movie is already out along with one officially released song, Ghoomer which has been became a topic of talks all over the Bollywood along with the fans, the movie is going to be released on 1st of December and will defiantly one more Blockbuster from the makers.
Next projects are known to be in a Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie which is to be titled soon but Deepika Padukone is playing role of Rahima Khan, sister of Gangster Dawood Ibrahim from 1980s, co-starring with Irfan Khan. Deepika will also be a part of 4th movie in a series of xXx franchise, which is an American action movie created by Rich Wilkes.
