Ranveer Singh is a Bollywood actor who is known for his unlimited energy on stage and entertainment that is seen over the various stages he is been along with on-screen with directors of any film he is working with. Most of his roles that he does are very challenging that very few artists can do. This came because of his focus and concentration regarding the character you do. This Bandra boy is not from celebrity family but today is defiantly a star who is none less than a celebrity. Let us see towards Ranveer’s struggle and journey from zero to a hero.

Ranveer Singh belongs to a middle-class family; his father is a businessman. He is the only brother of two sisters. Although always when watching films during his childhood and clapping over the work of famous stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor he wanted to me on another side of the screen to work with all of them. But this boy wasn’t a star son who was dreaming to be with stars, everyone knows that normally Bollywood has no place for ordinary people like him. This is very bitter truth called Nepotism of cinema which Ranveer himself had to phase during his struggle period.

For first fifteen years of his life Ranveer Singh was raised in Bandra, his school, family, friends, relatives, everyone was in Bandra but he left it at the age of 16 years old for his college studies in Hassaram Rijhumal College of Commerce and Economics (also known as HR College) located at church gate, Mumbai in Media Studies, normally people come here to study business but he was with different mind and wanted to do BA in Media Studies and then do job of copyright in Chicago or New York.ranveer singh biography

But in his 2nd year he got late for the admissions, fortunately, there was only one seat left in a department named as “Acting one”. Hence he grabbed the opportunity and took admission in the same, for a very first day in class, the teacher asked everyone to give a shot performance on the stage and there were all foreigners in his class who were from different countries, who performed there. When it was Ranveer’s turn to perform, he in confusion just started speaking dialogues of movie “Deevar”. Everyone in the class clapped for his efforts without understanding his language, they gave him such appreciable response. Ranveer Singh felt that his destiny has decided that what he has to actually do in his life and he was going on the wrong place before this. That very day Ranveer called his father, told him about his dream along with this that he wants to go in acting line rather than media studies. His father agreed and advised him to complete his studies first so that after starting his struggle for acting he has something to fall back on, also asked him to promise that he will do his acting with all his hard work.

Working as a “Leading Actor in Main Stream Hindi Films” had always been a goal for Ranveer Singh to achieve. Thereafter completion of his studies, Ranveer came back to Bandra but had no clue that how and from where to start his journey. Fortunately, Ranveer has a friend named “Shaad” who gave him very first break as an assistant director, from which started 3.5 years long struggle of this young man. For around  1.5 years Ranveer did this job and during this one day in Bhaidas Hall there was the shoot of a Tata Sky advertisement for which Paresh Rawal was about to come, Shaad was the director and Ranveer was assistant director for the shoot. When he saw the spot where Paresh Rawal was standing, the first thought in Ranveer’s mind was “this is where I should be standing”.

After the incident, Ranveer Singh left the job and went back to do acting classes, but they never worked well as all their teaching where what he was already beyond. He left them too. Also during the time, Ranveer tried to go for theatre so that to stay connected to the art. But never got an opportunity to work on stage for theatre and he was kept to do all that backstage work like making the set ready, shifting sofas from one place to other, the point was this even after 2 years of struggle, there is nothing that he has done for himself that could give him satisfaction.

Also, he saw that everyone who is getting a break in the industry is the person who is the son of a producer, director or actor. All the big roles in the films are already reserved for them. This boy wanted who came to become an actor was working as runner-up artist of backstage. Afterwards, getting frustrated by this was very easy for one but he decided to quit everything rather than polishing himself for the better. In result of this, Ranveer went back and started making a portfolio that would attract director; he took around 8 months to design his profile on a paper.

After distribution of his portfolio around many producers and directors, Ranveer started getting opportunities but nothing that matched his expectations, we all have listened to a saying that “Bagger’s can’t be choosers”. This was the most difficult time in his life that he had to choose between “his expectations and dreams” or to grab “unofficial opportunities on his desk”. In desperation everyone chooses whatever comes their way, hence Ranveer auditioned for them, also got selected for the roles but just when he was losing faith in his dreams, there was one person who was watching is struggle from very near and had faith in his potential, Shanu Sharma (casting director of Yash Raj Films). She always advised him right that his talent is more beyond these roles hence he should wait for the right great opportunity and spend is energy in a worth way.

This was the time when Ranveer’s faith on his dreams got a boost when someone showed their faith in him. One day he got his dream call from Shanu, who told him that she has talked with Aditya Chopda for him, so was asked for the audition of “Band Baja Baarat” which was a dream come true for this artist. The reality looks like a dream for the very first time to him, also he had a good day when he went to walk in an audition for YRF which is only known for launching stars in the industry, for the very first time it was launching a newcomer, Ranveer Singh. After the audition, Aditya Chopda said “I got the perfect boy fit for the character of “Bittu” in the film”.

This was Ranveer’s debut movie but making it a turning point of the whole career was never an easy task for him. For very first time in his life he was on the Set of a Bollywood movie and for him it was like entry of a child in world, in an interview Ranveer said “I didn’t know anything when I entered in, I was escorted till my Vanity Van and was treated like a star, I was so nervous that I was taking permission from the spot boys to get myself ready, when they said that yes you can change if you want to and we will call you when the lightning and other things are ready.”

“Everything learned previously was suppose to forget when it was come to the shooting of a Bollywood movie, I didn’t had any idea, how to react and what is called as spot, rolling camera, or action. I had to learn all this again and now I am able to understand sort of this stuff.” He added. When band Baja Barat was released, the same day a comedy film was releasing and most of the audience got to watch that, but Band Baja Barat remained on screen for more than 100 days, which was a great achievement and was telecasted on TVs, Airplanes, and theatres as well. And Ranveer’s acting was so natural that everyone didn’t even realise that he is not “Bittu” from Delhi but was from Bandra in Mumbai. This is what he is known for, his concentration towards the character of the film. Very slowly but somehow his debut film became a super hit in Bollywood. At 56th Filmfare awards, Ranveer was awarded award for best debut male.

After this, he did Lady Vs Ricky Bahl, which had a decent box office collection and normal critic’s response, not better than the debut but still was a positive outcome. Before the shoot of Lootera, Vikram Aditya and Ranveer decided to do workshops which lasted 3 days but still, Ranveer didn’t felt himself ready for the character after so many of his efforts. Due to which he said to Vikram that “You have chosen the wrong man for the film, I can’t do it.” And upon this Vikram told him that “You are scared about the nature of this character and you don’t want to show your other side to the audience, but just do it, I know I what i have chosen, just believe in me and deliver the dialogues just as I say.” Hence Vikram was successful to make Ranveer do this challenging character, also Ranveer Singh is very thankful to him for making him do this and learn a lot from all this.

Afterwards, Ranveer Singh did many super hit tales like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela leading role with Deepika Padukone, Gunday with Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopda, Kil Dil, leading role in Dil Dhadakne Do with Anil Kapoor as in supporting role.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Bajirao Mastani is the one from which Ranveer Singh took over the many Bollywood stars and proved that he is not less than a Masterpiece in Bollywood cinema. For the role of Peshwa Bajirao, he locked himself in a hotel room for around 30 days just to be with the character of Bajirao and came to Sanjay Leela Bansali and said: “Your Bajirao is ready to perform.” This is what shows his dedication and focus towards his work. In return, Bajirao Mastani became a blockbuster along with rememberable tale for everyone, not only this, he is further awarded Filmfare award for best actor in the film.

In 2016 Ranveer Singh appeared in Befikre and for now, he is playing the role of Alauddin Khalji as a villain in upcoming movie Padmavati, releasing on 1st December this year along with Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor. For this historical character, Ranveer Singh prepared him in such a way that the character of Alauddin Khalji is taking over his own personality and he is going to the psychiatrist for his treatment. There is no doubt that this dedication of a man makes him zero to hero and Ranveer is growing beyond all this, his journey is now about becoming a Legend of all today’s time.

Ranveer’s family, Aditya Chopda, Shaad, Shanu Sharma are the people who encouraged him and believed in him when everyone around him was showing him thumbs down along with giving statements like “this is not a hero material, he can never be a lead in a film moreover not even capable of doing Bollywood.” But today none of them is able to meet their own eyes. The story of this man is not just a struggle but also an inspiration to everyone who has a dream that could never lead them to sleep.
